An options trading journal that does the contract math
Options results are easy to misjudge: each contract is worth 100 shares, positions expire, and commissions are charged per contract. OptiqJournal values every option trade correctly from your broker file and lets you tag the strategy behind it, so you can see which approach actually makes money.
What it does for options
- Values each contract with the 100x multiplier and shows P&L after commissions
- Charges a per-contract fee you set, unless your file already contains the real commissions
- Pairs partial exits and scale-ins for each contract
- Reads option symbols from thinkorswim, Interactive Brokers, Webull, Robinhood and Fidelity files
- Shows open positions separately, so an option that expired shows as open until you check it
Strategies and setups you can tag in one click
Pick from a ready-made list instead of typing names, so your labels stay consistent and your breakdown tables mean something:
- 0DTE scalp, directional long call or put, expiration-day play
- Debit spread, credit spread, iron condor, straddle or strangle
- Covered call, cash-secured put, the wheel, calendar or diagonal, LEAPS
- IV crush around earnings
- Entry setups such as ORB high and low, VWAP reclaim, 8 EMA and VWAP crossover, 8 and 21 EMA crossover
A limit you should know about
Each option contract is tracked as its own trade. Multi-leg strategies such as spreads and condors are not grouped into a single position yet, so a spread appears as separate legs. Tag every leg with the same strategy name and the By setup table will still show how that strategy performs overall.
What to review once your trades are in
- Results by strategy, so you can stop repeating the ones that lose
- Results by entry hour and weekday, which is where many options traders find their worst habits
- Fees as a share of gross profit, because per-contract costs hit small trades hardest
- The cost of your tagged mistakes, such as chasing an entry or exiting early
Frequently asked questions
Does it support multi-leg options strategies?
Each contract is a separate trade for now. Tag all legs of a strategy with the same setup name to see the strategy's combined results in the breakdown tables.
How are option commissions handled?
If your file includes commissions and fees they are used. Otherwise a per-contract fee from Settings is applied, 0.65 by default.
